Chinese New Year Dragon Parade

Chinese New Year Dragon Parade

Sun 10 Feb 2013
Chinatown, Little Bourke Street

To celebrate the year of the snake, on Sunday 10 February 2013, Melbourne Chinatown features various traditional and contemporary Chinese cultural festivities.

The Chinese Museum continues its tradition to host a private Dragon Awakening Ceremony. The world’s largest processional Chinese Dragon, the Millennium Dragon then parades in the city streets.

On the day, Chinese Museum admission is free. The Level 1 Temporary Exhibition Gallery presents the Celebrating the Year of the Snake exhibition, which explores the customs, foods and traditions of the Spring Festival as celebrated by Chinese families in China and abroad. Visitors are able to discover the Festival’s rich history, traditions and contemporary practices through images and artefacts. An enormous paper snake made by hundreds of participants in a three-month period was also exhibited. The Museum welcomes all to share the Chinese Cultural heritage of Melbourne’s Chinese community.
